The world has seen a significant outage over the last 24 hours as a broken deployment patch was deployed to its customers who use Crowdstrike as their cloud distribution software for managing servers at an enterprise level.

The error displayed is called a BSOD which is short for “Blue Screen Of Death”.

Fixing the affected system is rather simple, as it just requires deleting the bad file from the device's operating system folder. However, getting a reverse patch like this deployed across a globally affected network can be incredibly difficult.

Here are the steps to bring the Windows system back online:

  1. “Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment

2. “Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory

3. “Locate the file matching ‘C-0000029*.sys’, and delete it.

4. “Boot the host normally.”

If you are wondering how to boot into safe mode, please follow this link.

Getting a fix for this deployment will take a huge amount of time, as each system has to be rebooted several times. This information was also confirmed by the CEO of Crowdstrike, George Kurtz.

Mac &Linux machines are not affected by this and continue to operate normally.
